Career Information
Byron Area High School is a career
pathway high school. We use the six Michigan Career Pathways to help
students take high school classes which will help prepare them for their
post-secondary lives. We have scheduling plans to help students whether
they are planning on working right out of school, entering the military,
or going to college or vocational school. More information about
the six career pathways can be found in the
scheduling
packet.
The six Michigan Career Pathways are:
-
Fine Arts and Communication
-
Human Services
-
Health Sciences
-
Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial
Technology
-
Business, Management, and Marketing
-
Natural Resources
We encourage students to explore their career
interests in a variety of ways--through job shadowing, on-line exploration,
career placement tests, and library/online research. Byron High School students
may access
Career Cruising
on-line. Career Cruising also has a place for students to work on
their Educational Development Plan and their resume. The username
and password can be obtained from the counseling office.

Going-pro.com ... "Once
seen exclusively as a world of manual labor, today’s Skilled Trades offer a wide
array of opportunities for high school and community college students throughout
Michigan. Careers in emerging fields, like healthcare and information
technology, often require less schooling and debt than a four-year degree. Which
means you could be earning a great salary and benefits sooner than you ever
imagined." This is a Pure Michigan Talent Connection website that includes
skilled trades information as well as salary information.
Owosso Memorial Healthcare Job Shadow Days
This is a great opportunity for students who
are currently age 16 or older (and in grades 10 - 12) to
explore the many potential jobs that are available in the medical field.
Students arrive at the hospital at 8:30 am and spend about 3 hours in their
preferred area. Observations are available in nursing, physical
therapy, computers, pharmacy, radiology, speech therapy, respiratory
therapy, laboratory, and social work.
The job shadow dates for 2018/19 are:
December 13, January 10, February 14, March 14, April 11 and summer
2019. Students must complete the application (with parent, student, and
Mrs. Smith's signatures), signed Commitment Statement, signed
confidentiality statement, record of a negative
TB test
result (done within the past year), and record of vaccines. The below intro letter details how the forms are to be
submitted. Once approved, students must get a pre-approved absence
form from Mrs. Smith in order for it to considered a school activity.
